Basic insurance
Covers according to the rental company's conditions, with a maximum deductible of $1,000 when the coverage applies.
Full Cover: available for $60 extra per day.
Coverage is subject to the terms and exclusions of the rental agreement. No insurance covers traffic fines or situations where the driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, along with other exclusions in the agreement.
Driver requirements
- Be at least 23 years old.
- Present a valid driver's license.
- Present a credit card for the security deposit.
- Accept and sign the rental agreement conditions.
Security deposit
A $1,000 deposit is required.
By card, the release can take 7 to 15 business days depending on the bank or issuer. In cash or PayPal, it is returned at check-out once the car has been inspected.
The deposit may be withheld in full or in part if there is damage, deductibles, fines or other situations covered by the agreement.
Delivery and return
The car is delivered and returned at La Fortuna Downtown Boutique Hotel, and must be returned with the same amount of fuel it was received with.

If you are coming from SJO to La Fortuna, the rental company offers a free driver service and charges nothing extra to pick you up.

How the package works
The main advantage is freedom. The included attractions are self-guided experiences: there is no group tour to follow throughout your stay. When you book, we set the days on which each admission will be used.
Suggested 3-night itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in La Fortuna
- Arrival and check-in at La Fortuna Downtown Boutique Hotel.
- Car delivery and free time to discover downtown La Fortuna.
Day 2
Forest, bridges and volcano
- After breakfast, visit the Hanging Bridges.
- Have lunch near the volcano: there are restaurants and local sodas nearby, so you don't have to drive back to La Fortuna between outings.
- In the afternoon, continue to the Arenal Volcano Ecological Park and walk its trails.
Day 3
Waterfall and hot springs
- After breakfast, visit the Río Fortuna Waterfall.
- In the afternoon you can rest, explore La Fortuna or drive to other places of interest.
- End the day at the Pura Vida hot springs, with dinner included.
Day 4
Breakfast and departure
- Breakfast at the hotel and car return at the agreed time.
It is only a recommendation: you can organize the activities differently based on your preferences, operating hours and availability.
When you book, we set together the days each admission will be used.
Frequently asked questions
Can I swap one of the included activities for another tour?
The activities included in the package cannot be substituted. We can add extra tours and experiences on request.
Does the package apply to children?
Yes. Children ages 0 to 5 do not pay for the included activities.
Children ages 6 to 10 have a special rate, and from age 11 the additional adult rate applies.
What happens if it rains?
Rain is part of the rainforest experience in La Fortuna and the activities normally keep operating.
If an operator suspends an activity for safety reasons — lightning, for example — we work to reschedule the admission according to their availability and policies. Refunds for weather are not guaranteed.
Do I need to book several days in advance?
There is no mandatory minimum. You can book close to your arrival date as long as there is availability at the hotel, for the car and for the included activities.
Even so, we recommend booking in advance to guarantee availability.
Is the package only for international visitors?
No. It is available to both domestic and international visitors.
Costa Rican nationals and residents receive a 10% discount off the regular package rate with the code TICOS. Conditions and availability apply.
Do the tours have set times?
The included experiences are self-guided, so the hours depend on each attraction: usually 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the nature parks and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the hot springs.

Booking and policies
Up to 30 days before arrival
You can cancel, postpone or modify your booking with no penalty, subject to availability for the new dates.
Within 30 days of arrival
Payment of 100% of the package is required to confirm the booking, and the rate becomes non-refundable.
Cancellations, modifications that cancel services, early departures and no-shows may incur a penalty equal to the full value of the booking.
Date changes are subject to availability, rate differences and the conditions of the included services.
Payment
The full booking must be paid during the 30 days before the arrival date. Bookings made within that period require full payment to be confirmed.
